Dordogne! 3rd October 2015

So, I've now got the travelling bug! Not quite true as this long weekend in the dordogne was booked a very long time ok, but as it had to be cut short ( we were supposed to do a week) we managed to squeeze a week in the Mallorcan sunshine as well.

Our journey down here was fairly uneventful , standard motorway driving and reasonable hotel stop over, not so my aunt and sibling .

AB was flying out of Stansted airport on Thursday morning, and as her home town ( and originally mine) is in the back of beyond rather than miss her flight she booked into a hotel the previous day.
She was offered a very nice room, obviously for disabled people, ( no comment) but very clean and spacious . So far so good.
This hotel has a lovely swimming pool, of which AB took full advantage, both in the evening and early the following morning. However whilst in the bathroom she wondered if the red cord had anything to do with a 'fan' so pulled it, not once but twice, but nothing happened so she continued with her ablutions .
Suddenly she heard loud knocking at the door and then the door handle to her room turning. A little panicked as she was in the soaping stage, and horrified at the thought that the cleaners should be rousing people to vacate their rooms at7:30am!
At this stage she had still not realised that the cord she had pulled was none other than the emergency cord, and it only dawned on her when she heard the 'buzzing' when the shower stopped.

My brother also stopped overnight at a rather nice chateau on their route down south . They had some beautiful but rather antique fragile furniture in their room, which for normal sized people wouldn't have been a problem. However my brother being around 6ft 3" and not what you exactly call 'fine boned' or a slim build, managed to sit on a chair and break the legs.
Reception called, apologies made, ruffled waters smoothed over and no more incidents until the morning, when being the dutiful husband and making his wife a cup of tea in their room, he swung the tea bag round and dropped it off the spoon and into the middle of the white carpet .
My sister in law awoke to be greeted by the sight of my naked brother on all fours scrubbing at the increasingly enlarged stain with some wet toilet paper. Neither a very pretty sight. I don't think they will be staying at that hotel again somehow .

These incidents give you some idea as to what type of family I have, and should explain a great deal about myself.

The first group night we opted for the chicken meal/ wine and quiz package. The questions were somewhat ambiguous , run by a mother/ daughter team and a dodgy microphone. There were various sections to the quiz, and different subjects, however the category on the 'local history ' was a tad unfair on folks that had only arrived in the region 3 hours previously !!
Despite all this we ( I use that term loosely ) came second , well we were for five minutes until they realised that the papers had been marked incorrectly and we'd actually won, so the foie gras prize was whipped up from the false winners and presented to us, which of course my brother devoured the next day!

My one wish was to go canoeing down the river, and so it was booked for a four hour trip, it was brilliant and I highly recommend it to anyone staying around the dordogne. It was amazing that nobody fell in the water, got hit by a paddle, or caused any accident to any other river users.
We stopped en route to partake of refreshments and sailed serenely back to our starting place, viewing wildlife and incredible chateaus on our way.

AB and myself our enjoying before breakfast swims, and four of us have managed a short game of tennis, a few rain clouds today have not spoilt our walk through the woods this morning, or swims, but tennis is postponed hence the chance to blog!

The only slight fly in the ointment on this lovely weekend is the fact Steve came away with a bad cold and has been feeling worse for wear over the last 48 hours, but we think that plenty of liquid medicine and cheese will 'cure' him!!!

In order to post this, I've had to delete the photos.... Same thing happened in Mallorca .... So photos to follow!
