Friday 25th May

Friday 25th May
What an amazing day, perfect tennis weather! I had a great match this morning with AH, AB and MP, thank you ladies! I met a friend over lunchtime at Hotel De France before enjoying a swim in the spa with my ‘free day pass’.
I hope the sun shine stays with us until Sunday, the banner is coming along nicely, and it’s certainly big enough to spot from a distance (think Hollywood)!! I have bought some pink balloons to tie to it as well; I am not sure where the ‘team’ will meet. We will try and find a good spot to congregate and I am still hoping to book a table for lunch afterwards, so far there are 9 of us, let me know if you want to join us?
I have gone over £4,000 – it is incredible, I’ve had so many donations just today, thanks to you all.

Thursday 24th May

Thursday 24th May
A very nervous Jilly Luce sat with her husband at Radio Jersey today to do a short interview on my own personal ‘Race for Life’. SP was a lovely interviewer and I hope it came across ok to the 4 people that were listening (2 of which were my in-laws)!
I came home and had a lunch that involved large quantities of lettuce in my salad and as you and Mr McGregor know, lettuce is very soporific. So with the nervous energy I burnt this morning doubled with my lunch I did sleep for couple of hours in the lovely warm conservatory!!
Just as well because I was on DD (deputy duties) this evening at Gouray Castle, such a fantastic heritage site for Jersey, and a beautiful evening to appreciate it all.
On an impromptu moment we wandered down into Gorey and then met a friend and decided to have supper outside Danny’s. Such a perfect end to the day in such a stunning location.

Wednesday 23rd May

Wednesday 23rd May
Thanks KLeF and CleF for the summer hats- and you- neighbour JDLH- at last I am putting them to good use!!
On the final week before the Race for Life and its CRAZY, people are still donating not only to the www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/jillyluce  but also cash and cheque donations, unbelievable!!
We should meet up around 10am on Sunday, I am hoping ‘my team’ will be able to spot the banner/balloons and congregate all in one spot ( I am ‘taking a register’ as we have over 25 of us!!)
I am going to try and book somewhere for lunch for my family after the ‘race’ if you are interested in joining us please text me – I’ll try THE bar first, and if they can’t, possibly the harbour restaurant……?
I had a ‘fun’ session of racquetball with AB this morning, thank you! A very relaxing afternoon pottering around garden/house before tennis with AdeF, FP and CH. If I thought I was going to be ‘cut any slack’ I was severely mistaken, more a case of ‘eat or be eaten’ tennis….!!!
Huge thanks to RL for the very delicious lasagne that she kindly dropped in for the family this afternoon, double blessing as I had been invited out for a meal with 3 ‘old’ badminton friends…
So good to catch up with each other and reminisce over good times (plenty of good humoured jokes about hair loss, among others!)

Monday 21st May

Monday 21st May
10 weeks today since my operation.........

Lying in bed this morning and pondering on the plans I had for the day ahead, and how my legs may feel when I eventually swung them out of the covers, I observed hubby with his morning dressings. Some people find it very hard to move about quietly and my dear hubby is one of those, for instance he is usually up well before me, and try as he might even his breathing is noisy! There is little change between him moving about normally or moving about ‘quietly’ other than the concentration on his face! This morning he reminded me of the ‘Gruffalo’, (minus the wart of course- and you’d have to work with small children to understand what I mean!) He can look a little fierce, is a bit hairy but ultimately he is really gentle and kind. (Did I mention that he must really love me when we were getting soaked to the skin in the wilds of Noirmont yesterday?)
I had a good aqua aerobics class this morning although a bit of sunshine would have been nice, and then I trogged into town for some shopping. I then had to follow this up with another food shop, the fridge was empty from the weekend ‘boy fest’ a regular occurrence in this household I’m afraid!
Finished off the afternoon with a walk and talk along St Catherine’s with PDLH, and collecting more donations for the RFL, I have now had to raise the target YET AGAIN! Now that is AMAZING, it’s topped £3,000!! Many thanks to EVERYONE.

We had a lovely family tea tonight, you know one of those that everyone gets a say, the food was delicious, and conversation was flowing and often funny. A real buzzing homely atmosphere a good memory to treasure- and they all helped with the clearing up……….bonus!!

Sunday 20th May

Sunday 20th May
In somewhat overcast conditions hubby and I set off from le Rocque harbour at 8.15am and ‘retired’ from the Jersey Mencap walk at St Brelade bay at 12 noon, with only one brief facilities stop.
We managed to stay dry until we approached Noirmont, and then it really did rain, so after an executive decision we called it a day, and stumbled into Midbay café for lunch, and to await the arrival of son no 3 for our lift home!

Saturday 19th May

Saturday 19th May,
Two hours of fun tennis, thanks ladies most enjoyable (even if I was ‘the loser’)!!
Hubby and I made an appearance on the village green pentanque ‘terrain’ this afternoon, he chose not to partner me and narrowly succeeded in beating me 13-11. (I made him cook his own supper tonight as punishment);-0. By the way if anyone is visiting our French friends over the channel in the next few weeks, please could they buy me a new ‘counter’ and a proper tape measure, I will gladly reimburse them for their troubles. (It is getting serious, and we have a ‘match’ against some Grouville counterparts in the next couple of weeks, and they thrashed us last time so I need the practice)!

Visited Gorey butcher to buy my ‘roast’ for tomorrow night, although depending on how we get on with our 15 mile ‘hike’ tomorrow (le Rocque to Corbiere) for Jersey Mencap, I may not be physically able to stand let alone cook!!! I am quite sure that I will not be able to do half of it, especially as the forecast is for bad weather, but at least we will start it.
I have been reading an excellent book today (sent over by my sister) by Professor Jane Plant called ‘Your Life in your hands’, and as well as her own ‘journey’ with the disease it links diets and cancers.
