"Holiday Post"
The title should read ' The hour I lost my passport'.... Or 'The holiday that nearly didn't happen'...
Finally, after four years, two elections ( husband, not me) two operations and two long sessions of chemo we felt a holiday pour deux persons was well overdue.
This explains a little as to why my brand new passport has not been in operation for sometime, all the recent UK trips were covered by my driving licence identification .
So there I was yesterday morning gradually filling up my suitcase and finding the little used sun tan lotion ready to pack, when I pulled out my passport from its usual place in the bureau and discovered to my utter dismay that it was the old one.....
Utter panic overtook me, 24 hours before we flew and no passport. I looked again, moved papers, searched drawers , in a somewhat strangulated voice I informed my aunt that she had to walk Jess as I had to find my passport....she then set about looking too, ( she's not to be trusted with the dog on her own, she gets lost in a supermarket ) .
Within an hour I had gone from mildly panicked to total meltdown, sobbing and fruitlessly looking in my daughters handbags(?) everybody's coat pockets (??) How could I be so stupid? Why wasn't is where I always keep it? I couldn't even remember when I last used it , although the photo was pre illness as I had long hair!
Fortunately Steve was home, and after looking through his papers and files and not finding it, walked towards the bureau and said calmly " is this it"? .
Being so pristine new it had stuck to the side of the shelf , and I had obviously only had a 'boy' look, such was my haste believing that I could only find the old passport.
By which stage I was an emotional wreck, written off my(our?) holiday and reconfirmed my place in the book of ' the stupidest person on the planet' .
On a positive note, my aunt found the instruction manual to the Panasonic combination microwave oven ( we still have 30years on) even if we haven't used it for 5 years and it is probably now more nuclear reactive and should have been disposed of twenty years ago!!!!
So, even with the dramas, we made it to Mallorca ....
Tried to post this last night but didn't work , taken photos off to try again!!!
