This is author (if you can call me that) Steve here again....reporting in from the EAU ward at hospital. I feel a little like (but only a very little) like a football correspondent at the World Cup....choosing a different venue every day...a new "stadium with new players and a different set of fans". Sorry about that....thought I'd try a topical analogy....not rally relevant to hospital ward full of females....they are much happier watching Poldark for some unknown reason.
Anyway...here we are...back in The General. We've had three nights at home....a home that looks more like a scene from "Casualty" every day. The reason that we are back is that the left lung procedures have gone so well they have decided that they want to do the same on the right lung. So far so good.....it's now 17:30 and since lunchtime we've drained just over 2 litres of fluid...and Jill is already feeling a little brighter....and just had a pretty bright conversation with both KG and PS at the beside. I can't say enough about the dedication and kindness of ALL the staff in this hospital....how grateful we should be to have such wonderful people looking after us all. Jilly and I have "seen some things" whilst we've been in and out....but all the time the patience and kindness shows through.
So far today on the ward we've had noisy snoring, (very) noisy ringtones....lucky I didn't just chuck next doors flippin' mobile phone right out of the window.....some poor folk who really are not quite sure where they are, and also a visitor (not for us, fortunately) who, when he can't be understood by the elderly relative he's visiting, thinks the answer is to talk louder....and louder...and louder....like some Monty Python sketch that's gone off the rails somewhere. Where's the Spanish Inquisition when you need them......HA, no one expects the Spanish Inquisition.
With luck, and a relatively pain free night, PS will do a "talc job" on this right lung tomorrow morning. If that goes well we will then have a couple of units of cross matched blood added to Jill's arterial system (blood transfusion) that in turn will hopefully allow us to have chemo tomorrow....and that will then be time for us to go home again, pulling cartwheels down The Parade on the way to the car.
We've had a good weekend...Uncle Tim has arrived...and yesterday, cousin Matthew, wife Marianne and (four year old) Thomas dropped in from the UK for a few hours. I managed to combine some oxygen pipes together so Jill could sit on the swing seat in the front garden. My efforts worked a treat....and it's been a rewarding challenge to see if I can get the supply out to far flung corners of the house (something only my sad farmer friends will appreciate.....a little like trying to irrigate those out of the way potato fields....a right royal pain to do but very satisfying when it all works!!!
Enough of me...back to our sick patient....not too sick that she can't watch Wimbledon though....and (after sleeping most of this afternoon), and with Mrs. Noisy Mobile now gone home next door, Jill has an unimpeded view of the TV screen. I sure she would prefer to be watching the footie....yeah, right. I have, however, managed to, accidentally on purpose, turn the volume down just to the point where I can't quite hear John McEnroe commenting on the tennis, so there are some advantages to not being stuck in bed.
I'll stop there I think and ask her ladyship if she wishes to contribute to this blog today.
I was so disgusted by my feeble attempts to write the last blog, I thought I'd leave it to the more compos mentis of my family, not entirely sure that worked either , but you get the gist of it.

Good effort Steve, very informative, don't make Jill watch football though that's cruel as far as I'm concerned. Enjoy the tennis Jill. X
