Monday 8th. An account of an evening's activities by me, Tom

I said I'd write the blog but have nothing in mind so I'm just going to sit here at the kitchen table and watch family members for inspiration.

Let's start with Daniel. Daniel has take over the kitchen television tonight.  He's not watching TV, but is playing Farming Simulator 2015 instead.  Here he is:

You have to give him credit.  He can hardly drive a tractor in real life, yet here he is attempting to run a virtual farm.

He's actually started lecturing those of us still left in the kitchen about "how it's done".  Dad has actually laughed so much that he's tired himself out and fallen asleep.

I had taken a photo of dad but can't put it up without his permission.  It's probably for the best that I don't.

So far Daniel has been pushed into buying machines he doesn't need (by Jack) and now has hardly any money.  It's probably for the best that he sticks to virtual farming, especially considering the phrases being uttered from the sofa.  These have included:

  1. Oh my days my money is pouring away
  2. Uh oh, catastrophic balls-up Tom
  3. Do you think this is going to have repercussions?
  4. Lets just be leaving that for now I think...
  5. Small problemo, i'm going to run out of cash soon
  6. Three of them crashed into each other and the sprayer was just on constantly
  7. Fortunately that's the only bit which is dead
My only concern is not whether Daniel's lack of farming knowledge is a direct slant on my fathers otherwise impeccable child nurturing ability, but whether the word 'balls up' is actually hyphenated.  I mean, I feel like it should have a hyphen, but the internet is giving me conflicting advice.

I learnt a new word today that seems particularly apt considering the events that have taken place tonight.

The word is 'panglossian':  adjective.  Blindly or naively optimistic, especially in the face of unrelieved hardship or adversity.

I could say that Daniel is panglossian about running a successful virtual farm.

  1. thanks tom, Dr Peter Pangloss, a character from Candide by Voltaire, eighteenth century......not an outlook that would serve you well on the poker screens I suspect....but probably essential for Dan's farming!
