It's been a good day. Jill has actually taken her "bag"off. After much deliberation Bex and her disappeared off upstairs at the end of the afternoon and removed the offending article. I was summoned to pass a verdict...and I have to say that (although I know nothing about needlework) the stitching seems very good....and no nasty leaky liquid. Result. Just like the little boy in the Dutch fairytale, I think we have finally plugged the leak...but we haven't had to push our fingers into any holes, thank goodness! I also suspect that, although she hasn't really told us, Jill is slowly weaning herself off the painkillers...we've suspected that they have been giving some side effects...on one hand Jill has had no real desire to sleep during the night... and on the other hand, when she does eventually sleep, she has nightmares... apparently the other night she dreamt she was stuck in bed all night with an horrible, moaning and snoring old man, and woke up and found out that she was!!
I knew the day had started well when she appeared first thing this morning on good form. The talk of runs to hospital for a replacement patch were soon forgotten, and instead we discussed not putting a new patch on and seeing how things went. There were calls from the hospital....but only to say that they want to see Jill tomorrow....Bex had taken photos of the offending wound, but they want to see what's happening for themselves. I am sure that it's going to be a great relief to everyone on this side of the water that we seem to have this problem finally under control..... goodness knows how much fluid has been "lost"...enough to float a reasonable size dingy I suspect.
One of the other discussions we had when we spoke to the hospital today put a whole new angle on "health tourism". We have known for some time that our oncology consultant and three nurses from the department are going to the Marsden on Friday for a conference/meeting.....it was suggested today that, if Jill really needs to go back, that she could go with the four of them on Thursday. How good would that be ... travelling with your very own professional surgery team. Jill said she couldn't do that, and that her presence would stop them all going shopping after the meeting....Jill was told that they would put her in a wheelchair and take her along. The chances of her needing to go now are very small I hope.....with the "seepage" (I wonder how many different words I can find to describe it) having stopped we are now confident that we have finally crossed the first of the many bridges we face in the coming weeks.
The fishermen in the family have also had a good day... Jack took Tim and Tom out to do the pots. 7 lobsters from 8 pots....and then mackerel...and finally dolphins to finish off the day (they weren't catching the dolphins ..... obviously). Tim is made up...never caught lobsters before or seen dolphs for that matter....even if nothing else happens this week he will go home a happy man. Dan has also had a good day on the Seafaris RIB....the only downside to our nautical day being that our very good friend (Constable) Steve Pallett didn't quite get to complete his round the island swim attempt. After eleven and a half hours in the water he stopped half way across St. Aubin's Bay... I know he will have given 100%...and I'm really sad that he didn't manage this challenge.....I'm sure he'll try again.
Well, I'm going to hand over now to she who is getting better.... I have to go and get the evening's injection while I remember....so if the typing gets pretty frantic in the next few lines it will be because I've just stuck the needle in and she is swearing at me! More tomorrow.....
The day started well, i felt a bit better, fitter and more 'with it', certainly enough to organise a job list for the family.... I had Bex on the hoovering ( albeit reluctantly) and Tim on cobweb removal. It means using an extended 'Heath Robinson"bamboo/feather duster combination that I had previously made.We have very high ceilings and I have spent a long time looking at cobwebs while 'resting'! All seemed to be well, and the kitchen was a hive of activity, in fact Tim was just telling me how the men of the house do all the work anyway- not paying attention to job in hand (the large picture he was 'dusting'). Jack muttered something and walked 'under' the rigged contraption, just as Tim knocked it sideways off the wall, and watching it all in slow motion I saw Jack semi catch the falling picture, spinning it around his back and it crashing to the tiled floor with an almighty smash. Spluttering with indignation, Tim began to blame Jack for his part of the accident, although clearly Jack was very much the victim, and was fortunate not to have had his head sliced open by falling glass!! After the initial shock, ( i kept hold of the dog!), the 'great cleanup' began, apparently the trick is to use bread to mop up broken glass ( Tim's wisdom). I kept well out of it, and was somewhat relieved when Jack suggested (against his better judgement) to take Tim out on the boat, a brave man indeed after his Uncle had tried to maim him for life!!
Heard the news that Big brothers flight delayed until Midnight tonight......!!! Not good !!
