Tuesday 13th November
Started the day with a great Zumba class at Maufant, lots of
jumping, whooping, and jigging around to loud music- not everyone’s cup of tea,
but I LOVE it!
With the sun shining and it being low tide I took Jessie
down to Archirondel for a lunchtime walk, she loved it, digging holes and
chasing sea gulls and Brent geese round and round!
I had a late lunch, and then employed various delaying
tactics so I ended up driving in late for my chemo, no surprises there then!
I ran into Oncology (no I didn’t sprint up seven flights, I
used the lift!) to see nurse KB foot tapping waiting for my arrival-
fortunately she wasn’t really cross and didn’t need to warm up the veins in my
hand for the needles! We tried the left hand (I had planned to use time to
write blog) but my vein wasn’t having it, and went into a bit of a spasm- so
did my head when I heard what KB said next……Consequently the right hand had to
be used and whilst she was sorting it out, Dr H came and explained very clearly
(He wrote it down for me!) all about my on-going chemo plan.
And so here it is from April when I started- I am now in Cycle 7......
Cycle 1 (Carbo/plat and taxel) 3 weekly- every 21 days
Cycle 2 (carbo/plat and taxel) 3 weekly- every 21 days
Cycle 3 (carbo/plat and taxel) 3 weekly –every 21 days
CT scan
Cycle 4 (carbo/plat and taxel) 3 weekly- every 21 days
Delay of approx 50
days
Cycle 5 (carbo/plat/tax) weekly Every 28days
Cycle 6 (carbo/plat/taxel) weekly – d1(1 week only then no
more)
CT scan
Cycle 7 (carb/plat) weekly d1,d8,d15,- every 28days
Cycle 8 (carb/plat) weekly d1,d8,d15, every 28days
CT scan
· d = day

“Platinum is the mainstay line of drug against
Ovarian cancer
So all in all I had a fairly major shock today as I really
thought that I was only having 2 more ‘bits’ of chemo , not two complete
cycles, naïve yes, this takes me right through until after Christmas………
I recently read an article in a newspaper about Cancer and
in it was a comment from Shelia Hughes describing her breast cancer as ‘like
going on a journey to a strange country. You don’t know if you’re going to
survive the journey; you’ve got no map; you’ve got no compass; and you’ve got
to drag your family along with you”.
I think that pretty well sums it up, don’t you?
This is me with my mate KH, and I'll be doing lots more celebrating over Christmas! |
