One traveller has returned from (nearly) eastern Europe.....and a good time has apparently been had by all. There's no doubt that the claims that Copenhagen is a centre for top quality cuisine are all true....and when Dan says he was "full" then you know that lorry loads of food have been consumed....apparently the menu on New Year's Eve was 6 courses...with a different wine with each. The highlight was, according to Dan, the celebrations that occurred an hour or so either side of midnight...before this story goes further, our reader needs to know that it appears that there is no real limit on the amount of fireworks anyone can buy in Denmark (Thomas would really be in his element) and letting them off is just basically unregulated. Dan assures us that everyone just literally buys as many rockets and "bombs" as they can carry, and then everyone turns up all together in the main square around midnight and lights their fireworks. No police, no organisation, no "public' displays....just hundreds of people letting off fireworks in the street.....and, judging by the short video clips that dan took, the size of the rockets is not too dissimilar to the one that we have over here at the organised displays....just continual rockets going off for about 2 hours...fired out of wine bottles on the pavements etc.......shell shock was a distinct possibility Dan says.....the mind boggles....and, just before you think that it's all laid back and wonderful, there were two people killed letting off fireworks in crowds overnight. I guess it's a tradition that's not unlike the isle of Man TT races..... if you tried to start the event now you'd never be allowed to put it on....and would be put in prison if you tried.
Dan did actually get hit by one that apparently bounced off his leg.....just as well i didn't know any of this until today.
There's little more exciting news today I'm afraid....a bit of work this morning (last day off for a long time I suspect) and then a dog walk for me this afternoon before a trip to the Airport to fetch Dan.....Jill did the morning walk before doing something at The Merton....and then another "outing" this afternoon (I didn't ask).....Bex at work until lunchtime.....and Tom trying hard to finish off a project that he's been working on over the festive break (next week he'll be working officially and won't have time for jobs-on-the-side).
Jack is back tomorrow....but before that happens, Jill and I will be doing our usual annual walk retracing the footsteps of the Islands various militias as they marched from the outlying Parishes to help fight in the Battle of Jersey. Tomorrow is the turn of St. Peter's...so it's a meet up just before nine o'clock for a "route march" into town.....hopefully arriving at about twelve. The forecast looks rather unappetising unfortunately....but I'm sure that there will be a good crowd.
This afternoon I played baby 'Min' at Racquetball, she gets the competitive edge and bad language from her mother, but the skills are all her own. We had lots of really good even matches, she did beat me however on 'who has the reddest face'.....
I don't think Steve has read the Chelsea/waistcoat comment from last night.... I'll show him as I'm sure he'll want to retaliate.... to 'that' reader I dare you to show your initials!!!!
