Jill finally got to have her blood test today...I don't know many details but I do know that it was very busy... and that she didn't get the results immediately.....and that when she did they weren't quite as good as one might have expected. It's always suspicious when the first thing the caller from the blood department says is "how are you feeling?"....you know that the results are such that you shouldn't be feeling as good as you do.....in Jill's case the good news was that the red cells are fine....the bad news is that she's neutropenic (that means that the white cells are pretty non-existent) ....and that means no chemo....not this week....another blood test on Thursday....another week without treatment.
Jill felt well enough to go to watch badminton this evening....yes I know, she was fibbing....she's been PLAYING badminton.....just back now....so I may sign off and leave her to tell you of the events on her own words. By the way.....this evening's discussion centred around the Mongol Rally (again)....Dan, for some reason, had his memory jogged by something....it all started when he suggested that he could drive from Gibraltar to Cape Town in 179 hours....Thomas and I fell about laughing....Dan has calculated that if he drove non stop at the legal speed limit then he could do it. We pointed out that, even if he could stay awake, there was the small issue of the Sahara Desert to contend with.....then we went into Mongol mode again. All Thomas had to say was "Daniel, if I have to do the Mongol Rally then I'll do it with friends in a car that won't break down"....." and that means not you, and not in your car"....Good old brotherly love....I thought Tom was being a bit mean.....Dan's car is really quite reliable!
Here's Jill.....
Thought I'd celebrate my rubbish blood test with a game of badminton or two, had some great games actually. Played ladies doubles and won both 2-1 and 2-0 ( had very young, fit, partner... that helps!) Then had two games of mixed, won 2-1 in first and lost next match 0-2, but really good fun and no injuries...so far.
In answer to hospitals question about my welfare, i feel GREAT!! I said the transfusion had made a big difference and i felt really well... then she told me that i was neutropenic... WHATTTT!!! ) My red cells up to 9.3 I think, and the neutrophils dropped to 0.6 ( Bex said that according to the internet(!) if they drop below 0.5 i would have "severe " neutropenia ....) Thanks for that.
Forgot to say THANK YOU LT for lovely supper.... it was AMAZING :-) ;-) xxxx
