If you haven't already been got, then, Pinch Punch first of the Month.....how we hate those "smarties" that get us in this family.
Dad likes to read the JEP at breakfast time.....something about it being easier when he's on his own.....but this morning he couldn't find it. This wasn't a good start as the old man is almost "on the spectrum" in the early hours. He has a routine.....and we'll say no more. Today, as mentioned, the (not so) beloved "local rag" was no where to be seen despite searches in all the usual places. Dad was forced (as he told us in a really grumpy mood) to go into the garden on the assumption that the paper was still "in the hole". This all happened before 06:45 so he apparently was "rather cold" (not the real words to protect the individual) by the time he got back inside....without the paper. It turns out that Mum had left it in the next door room.....as she said, "you obviously had a boy look and not a girl look"....dad said it wasn't a very helpful comment (or words to that effect!)..
We're still not used to the new hours our cleaner works. She now appears for a short time every week at 08:00, or just before. This took a certain member of the family by surprise yesterday.....said person came down from the bathroom en route to get dressed in their bedroom (no clues being given on this one you'll notice!) only to be shouted at that "the cleaner's here....you can't walk around like that!!" Mum was instructed to "stand guard" at the bottom of the stairs so the "one in the state of undress" could rush past and up the stairs. Modesty was preserved......unlike the other day.....
....We need to explain first that we have been showerless in one part of the house for a while. This has meant that some of us have had to shower quite a long way away from our rooms......the other day one of us appeared (again undressed) heading through the kitchen for a bed room in order to put clothes on. They were told that, "there's an electrician in the kitchen, you can't go in there like that". Said person then used their initiative and decided that a quick dart outside and across the yard would be a way to save embarrassment. Doors were opened and said family member shot out into the yard.......only to come face to face with the electrician who had thought it best to wait outside.......what he thought, or said to his mates when he got back, is anyones guess.
Mum and dad are out tonight with their "once a quarter" crew. They meet up with old friends on a quarterly basis so they can all try to remember what it was like back in the "good old days" before children....flippin' cheek! It's sad really because the first thing they need to remember before they go out these days is "who's got the reading glasses so we can decipher the menu"......sad really, but they do enjoy themselves.
