Son No. 2 fulfilled the dream of all young boys today......he got to drive a fire engine..... he must be well chuffed....and apparently his "test drive" went well.....so he's now cleared to carry on with the driver training. Look out for him in your travels.....he'll be (we assume) the only 6 foot 7 inch driver that they've ever had....and ever likely to have!!........and if you're thinking about cracking the joke about "I bet you don't need a ladder"....don't! He's heard it so many times now he's probably more likely to thump you than thank you!
The weather didn't deter the "olds" this afternoon. They decided that petanque could miss out this week....and went in the garden. You may remember that Mum had mowed the lawn a while ago...but seeing as Dad was in charge this afternoon he's now telling us that the lawn has had it's first "official" mow of the year. Lawn mower man went out and started clearing all the shrubery that the builders had cut and left on the lawn when they put up the scaffolding 10 days ago.....the said bushes were pushed neatly to one side, and mowing commenced. When "she who looks after the garden" arrived it was announced that Dad had done "half a job, and should have removed the cut bushes completely to the back yard" ....as you can imagine, the term "half a job" didn't resonate well with the senior male. Mum ended up in the road with Dad passing (throwing more like) the branches over the wall to her. There was an accusation (when it came to a particularly thorny bramble) that he had actually poked her deliberately as he passed it over the wall.......strong stuff! Anyway....lawn got mowed eventually....but the old folk were feeling the cold after this so they retired to the kitchen.
Bex went off to work....Dan was at work....Jack went off to town to celebrate driving his fire engine...and Thomas went out to watch the footie.....Ma and Pa were at the Miss St. Martin competition this evening......and came back full of praise for all the super talented youngsters we have in our Parish....we suppose that makes sense....the best parish should have the best youngsters. The design of this year's float was up on the wall.....it won't be long now until they start the first bits of building.....crazy, it only seems like the other week we were at the Parade.
Dad is "guiding" some friends of Mums (she has friends??) out to Seymour Tower tomorrow. She is concerned that they need someone who "knows what they're doing".......we don't see why she's asked Dad then!! His usual directions are "meet on the slip....see the Tower....aim for it...walk out there....walk back". We don't think he'll ever get his Blue Badge Guide Qualification somehow.....but he does know his way around the beach. Let's hope the weather improves.....it's still so flippin' chilly.
We've been promised sun next week....that will be nice.....we've forgotten what it looks like.
