Mothering Sunday.......and the day started well....well, well for all except one who didn't quite manage to get up in time....and the least said the better.
Dad started with work in the States Building at 8ish...which allowed him to call some States department to say that Snow Hill Car Park had been left in disarray by someone overnight.....motorbike, bollards and a sizeable fence that was protecting the public had been left upside down....all sorted (although TTS may have other problems tonight)....Dad then went to meeting about "Wetwheels Jersey"....a boat that's being purchased locally to take disabled people to sea...watch this space for more info.....dad looks like he may be one of a handful who will skipper the vessel when it arrives in the summer. He's very excited and humbled to be asked......
The discussion at lunchtime was about potatoes, nonces and telescopic sights. Did you know that the cooking time of a potato is proportionate to it's radius squared? We didn't, well all of us except the engineer.....this was after dad had spent an hour or so peeling potatoes for this evening's meal... it didn't make potato peeling any easier. Nonce, apparently, comes from the acronym "Not On Normal Courtyard Exercise".....so if you were a "nonce" it was because your crime didn't allow you to exercise with the other prisoners.....we guess that was the "nastier" crimes. Finally, Thomas' morning hadn't gone well as regards the magpies. He ended up so disappointed he had to recalibrate the gunsights over lunchtime..... which entailed a slighted disrupted eating experience. Tom drew a lovely picture of a pigeon/magpie/crow and proceeded to fire at it out of the kitchen window. The results proved that either, the gunsight needs attention or, he can't shoot.
Mum and Dad took the dog to Greve de Lecq this afternoon after which we got ready for this evening's entertainment. Nanny, Poppa, AA and cousins various (along with partners) came for supper. We had a great time...and plenty of laughs. Children who claimed to be ambidextrous were forced on pain of death to write their name with both hands....the barista impressed us all with his knowledge and ability in coffee making.....photos were taken form all angles....and of course, MAJOR discussion about the Red Alert for tomorrow, and who would be going to work and who wouldn't.
This apparently is the first time we've had a code red since 1987 (the great hurricane!!) so we're not quite sure what to make of it. Dad is certainly going into town 'cause he has " a lot of stuff to do and a major meeting in the afternoon". He'll take Bex if he has to.....and Aunty Angela if she feels inclined to have a lift...then at the end of the day if anyone (except dad) needs fetching then the 4x4 brigade will set off from Rozel to come to the rescue.
When they talk about snow drifts on the tele, most people imagine those heaps of snow against the side of the road......snow drifts to Luce boys are the type technique you adopt in your car when out playing in the snow...as in "when you drift your car around a corner in the snow then that's a snow drift". Dad has decided to leave the Renault at home tomorrow and has the Range Rover lined up in the yard...he says he doesn't want to have to paddle through knee deep snow to get to the car in the morning....anyway, it does sound like it will be lunchtime before anything serous happens...but we have all the 4 wheel drives and "old beat up cars" fueled ready for the battle! Boys will be up early....and have all gone to bed early in expectation of the day to come tomorrow.
We sent out for additional supplies during the day......a male went to the shops just in case we can't get out for a couple of days. What did he return with?.....Bread, Milk, Bacon and Eggs.......nothing else is required to sustain life apparently.
