Bonfire night.....yippee (not)

Our reader will be pleased (?) to hear that Jilly is out this evening...doing something with a badminton racket.....we suspect playing...so, she can't be feeling too bad. It's been a good day for Jill I think (I say think because I haven't been here the whole day)...dog walk this morning, and then shopping and then an afternoon at home (not) resting. Jill obviously thought she deserved some sport just to end the day on a high.....and chemo (hopefully) doesn't start until 3 tomorrow afternoon, so maybe some more "good" things can happen before the trip to Hospital.

As I type AA has arrived to see us...but there aren't many of "us" here...Tom only just back from work, Jack burning things in Grouville and doing "boy things" (well, that was his excuse when asked by Bex if she could go with him)....Bex has gone to see Jack's girlfriend....(Dan away of course)...Jill out, and so it's just me, Tom and AA. We are currently arguing about the "value" of £14,000...and what you get for your money. Despite my sister and I telling him otherwise, Tom is adamant that £14k is "nothing" for a report...and yes, you've guessed it, we're discussing the Cascade report about sea lettuce.

Just to vary the conversation, we've now started "discussing" where to stack logs for the new wood burner (which we have now ordered and hopefully arrives at the beginning of next month). We all agree that chopped logs would be best in a shed, but Tom is again offering the alternative opinion....he is determined that valuable car/mechanics/tools/general clutter space is FAR more important than the storage of logs....we'll see. If there was ever a case of things expanding to fill the space available, then our sheds are a classic example.....they're full of old cars, car engines, car spares, diving equipment, boat equipment, general "boy stuff".

Tomorrow is quite a big day all round....Jill with her chemo...and me facing the prospect of becoming a Minister...and the Planning and Environment Minister at that. Most people think I am committing political suicide....indeed, one person came up to me in a shop yesterday and asked me if I had a death wish!!! It appears that the general public think that I'm putting myself in a 100% no win situation.....only time will tell...but I'm positive and excited by the prospect of finally being able to dictate policy and make a REAL difference.

AA has just made a comment about our (very) old Jersey dresser that we have in the kitchen...it was originally bought for Southdown in the late 1930's, my Grandparents house in St. Clement....and the comment? "isn't it amazing that all 14 of those original glass handles have survived so well"....so that's it then...the chances of all those said handles surviving until the end of the week seems pretty slim.

We have the football on now.....and AA has gone home (is there a connection there?) and my team have just conceded a goal.....not great...we were supposed to win this game easily. Let's hope the evening doesn't get any worse on the football front...I don't need any more sarky comments from my offspring thank you. I'm so upset I may suggest to Tom that he finishes off tonight.....he's busy getting excited about unwrapping some "exciting" engine parts that have arrived for him in the post today....some exciting washers, some bronze "things", some spider gears and finally (don't get too excited) a molybdenum (??) pin for his differential.....that's a "bit of the gearbox" for those less well up on their mechanics. Apparently he placed the order 10:30 yesterday.... it was dispatched at 14:10 yesterday....and it arrived at about 11 this morning. 10 out of 10 for the postal service.....I don't suppose we'll be having the same delivery times at this time NEXT month!!.....which reminds me, Christmas presents.....better start thinking soon. Here's Tom;

I'm tired after working 10 hours with no breaks.  Yes I did choose this for myself, and no it's not that hard to do; I conditioned myself by playing long periods of online poker for years. The long and the short of it is that I am limited to scouring comic strips for my trademark 'hilarious' material.  Rather than 'The Oatmeal', here's one from 'The Awkward Yeti'. That's all i've got for today.
