Monday 24th December
I was eager to get into town and buy the last few presents
(not), the dog had to be content with a march around the meadow and fields-
which she actually loves. I encouraged her to flush out pheasants, which she
did twice, of course not catching anything, until, that is my aunt and I heard
a quick scuffle in the undergrowth and Jessie proudly emerged with a large male
pheasant in her mouth and trotted up to us.
Well, you wouldn’t think the pair of us were brought up in
the country, squealing at each other to “do something”, she (the aunt)
instructed me to wring its neck, or bash it on the head to put it out of its
misery. I was jabbering back that SHE should do the neck wringing/bashing bit. Meanwhile
the dog is looking at us puzzled with the squirming pheasant still firmly
clamped in her jaws. Finally I instructed her to ‘drop it’ which she obediently
did, but it still left me with a now decidedly dejected, limp, half dead bird.
So I did the only sensible thing I could do…………….. I rang up son no2 to ‘come
and deal’ with it!!!!!!
The town trip was far less eventful thank goodness, and we
took aunt to Coopers Coffee to visit son no3 at work. She said it was the most delicious
Iced coffee she had ever tasted (My tea wasn’t so bad either!)
We were fortunate in the afternoon to have a lovely beach
walk along Grouville, with no rain- makes a change! And this evening four out
of the seven of us went down to Gorey for pre-Christmas drinks, and met up
with friends and their offspring.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very
merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
And a very Happy Christmas to you and yours Mrs Luce . Have fun and lots of champagne !!!
