Some of you may know our kitchen, with our high ceilings and
exposed beams….it was suggested today that maybe it wold be nice to have a pet
owl. The said owl could roost on the beams, and have a small door/hatch in the
roof that could be opened at night for it to “come and go as it pleased”. Where
do these ideas come from…..probably from those who have nothing better to do
with their time…..the man who pays the bill for heating was (while admiring the
environmental initiative) completely unimpressed.
Dog (who had a miraculous recovery very soon after returning
home from puppy training) went for a proper run with Dan this morning….all the
way from White Rock to Bouley Bay and back…much training going on by Dan at the
moment, not quite sure why though….
Dan also come back and made some Peruvian Fairtrade Organic
coffee yesterday….not that it was strong or anything, but we’ve decided that
anything more than the equivalent of an egg cup full (+milk) is probably too
much……there wasn’t anyone falling asleep afterwards, that’s for sure.
All the best intentions for yards and gardens went out of
the window this afternoon….once the rain set in there wasn’t any outside work
done at all….and the auctioneers didn’t call to say we’d been successful with
the bid for the dexion shelving, so no frantic rush out to St. Lawrence ….
Valentine’s Day tomorrow, so the boys have been out making
sure that the Jersey Post have space in the yard to park their biggest
lorry…that one that they will surely have to use to deliver all the cards !! A
few random questions being asked this evening about booking restaurant tables
at the last minute….obviously at least one son hasn’t been paying
attention…..must get it from his father!
Mother and Daughter returned from a trip this afternoon which
must have included a visit to the pet shop. The dog has a new toy….in a rather
fetching pink colour….it is a rope, and when we say rope, we mean something not
dissimilar in thickness to the stuff they use to tie up the car ferry at the
harbour…..it’ll take her all evening to chew through this for sure.
For some reason we had pancakes again tonight….and then an
almighty row broke out about the storage of Mini Eggs in the fridge…some of us
do, and some don’t….in the end the (large) packet was opened, divided in two,
and half left in said fridge with the other half returned to the larder……or
PANTry, as it is called because it annoys the senior female.
Tonight has been a real mellee……Dad studying States papers,
Mum at badminton (we think), Tom is out watching his beloved United on the TV
with friends (he has friends?), Jack also watching TV but NOT United, Dan off
cooking supper at a mate’s (he took two tins of butter beans with him….we
thought best not to ask), and Bex doing some coding practice for College…..Cat
outside doing whatever cats do outside at night….. and the Dog very contentedly
chewing her way through the ferry mooring rope while doing her best to
contaminate the entire kitchen with natural noxious fumes……happy days.
Would I be right in thinking the owl was son no. 1's idea?
