Tuesday 24th July

Tuesday 24th July
This may not come as a surprise to most people but according to my Oncology doctor I am a very unusual case! I just cannot believe that my blood count is still so RUBBISH, I suppose you could say there is some good news in that my red blood cells have gone up (obviously due to Friday’s transfusion). My white cells have increased to a more reasonable level but my ‘clotting platelets’, have only marginally improved, to 53……….they MUST be above 100 in order for me to have chemotherapy. Doctor H is now devising a somewhat different plan to the original, I think the gist of it is ‘Make it up as you go along plan’. It’s nice to know I’m a special case, but equally frustrating that I feel ‘in limbo’ and unable to finalise ‘I’ve finished my treatment ‘date. Nurse H (who made the BIG mistake of being nice to me today!) has booked me in for another blood test on Monday (I think they’ve taken out all the two units they put in!) with the possible date of Wednesday 1st August for number five cycle….and that will be a ‘reduced’ strength of chemo. He may then decide that actually I’m full to the brim of ‘poison chemicals’ and can’t take any more!!!

On a lighter note, I popped to Bel Val beach this morning; It was beautiful and had a lovely long chat with my friend Pdlh, followed by two swims! Headed into town for blood tests and mammogram, and therein lies another story!!

The lovely nurse who had the misfortune to be on duty today and perform the ‘procedure’ did an admirable job- don’t think she’s ever had to x ray ‘ribs’ for a mammogram before! I felt quite proud when I saw the image of a breast at least the size of a 50p piece on the screen, until I realised that actually that was BOTH breasts shown simultaneously!!!!
I did remark on the fact it was quite a large screen to fill anyway and she replied that there are some ladies that can’t ‘fit’ on the ‘plate’ and  have to have five slides taken at different angles to encompass their well endowed bosom!!!

After all that activity I was pleased that SW came with me and shared tea and sympathy afterwards We popped into town for a bit of shopping, I needed some new Crab Crackers as my boys keep bringing home shellfish to cook and my others snapped! I’ve just received a delivery of fresh mackerel tonight (fortunately they gut them, I just eat them!) Thanks to In-laws for the colossal ‘lobster’ pot they bought yesterday, (its big enough to fit me in…perhaps that’s the idea?)

  1. I know exactly how you feel at the mammogram department-the nurse just apologises for trying to get on the plate what little I have !!! Very frustrating that your blood tests not doing what they should so you can, as you say, have that last date! You are very brave going in the sea !!!!!!! lots of love & hugs xxxx

  2. Can't believe you went in the sea, if you were meant to swim in the coast around there you would have been given blubber........ and you most definately have no blubber
