Thursday 31stJanuary

Thursday 31st January

Visited the Macmillan centre today, they were holding their ‘last Thursday of the month’ coffee mornings. The theme this month was on complimentary therapies, and there were about 4 or 5 therapists who attended. It was interesting listening to all they had to offer, and I may even give one or two a try out sometime.

A sandwich for lunch and then off to work, I do P.E with four year olds on a Thursday.

In-between transferring children from class to sports hall, one little bright spark told me a ‘joke’-

“Why did the carrot cross the road?” ………….”Because he wanted to”   and

“Why did the donkey cross the road”?...........you guessed it …………..“because he wanted to”

Well, he was four, and I don’t think really had the hang of ‘jokes’!!

Illness update;-

Sons No.1 and 2 greatly improved, son No.3 a gradual improvement, daughter very poorly and missed college today, hubby back on antibiotics and coughing heavily, so much so we had to pull out of the meal at the Moorings Hotel tonight.

Wednesday 30th January

Wednesday 30th January

Played racquetball this morning- along with AB, had a brilliant time, thundering around the court swinging wildly at anything that moved!!

Popped by the hospital to take in a small hamper of goodies for the staff at the  Oncology unit, didn’t get to see the doctor- think he is in London at a conference, but never mind at least the Nurses were appreciative of the offering.

At work this afternoon had one little boy who asked me if I knew any Chelsea football players, this was in the middle of a ‘scientific experiment’ so not entirely sure where his question was leading. However he then said that Fernando Torres, had a ‘bandana’ like the one I used to wear, but now he has lots of hair! I guess he was just trying to make me feel better, bless him. I checked the facts with hubby (who is actually a Chelsea supporter- well somebody has to be) and he said he did used to wear a bandana to keep all his hair off his face!!!

Don't see a lot of resemblance.......

I am thinking of putting a red cross above the door,  warning healthy people not to enter!! My daughter has got a heavy cold, and aches all over, just when she thought she shifted the last one. Son no. 1 is still coughing, and son no. 3 is on his second week of antibiotics and still has swollen glands in his neck. Now tonight hubby is also coughing and sneezing.....happy days!!

Went and played a few games of badminton this evening- had a celebratory drink of water with LW whose birthday it is tomorrow.
Looks like we're in prison not at the badminton hall!!!!

Praying for Overtime

My husband, a big-time sports fan, was watching a football game with our grandchildren. He had just turned 75 and was feeling a little wistful. “You know,” he said to our grandson, Nick, “it’s not easy getting old. I guess I’m in the fourth quarter now.”
“Don’t worry, Grandpa,” Nick said cheerily. “Maybe you’ll go into overtime.” – Evelyn Bredleau

Tuesday 29th January

Tuesday 29th January

Had a foggy, damp, muddy dog walk at Les Platons this morning- met MJ – who wasn’t actually walking but drinking coffee at the mobile café- alright for some!
Les Platons or the lake District?

Also got into a conversation with a man and his two springer dogs- and he mentioned his wife runs a dog training class at RJH & HS- maybe he just looked at Jess and thought “that dog needs sorting out”!

Anyway daughter and I thought it was worth a try, and duly turned up with Jess, dog bags, spray, kitchen roll and toys!

There were SO many dogs all in one room, Jessie could hardly contain herself, and she was desperate to play with all of them. I, meanwhile was doing my best to listen to what the organiser was telling me, whilst appearing to be in control of my dog, who was busy tugging me in every direction.

Jess managed to wrap herself around a few people’s legs and introduce herself to various other dogs before the major embarrassment of the evening.
A  youngish gentleman arrived with his small black dog in tow, and before I could say “Jess” she shot off- straight through the man’s legs, tugging me with her.
It wasn’t pleasant for me or him- I ended up almost head-butting his bottom and you really don’t want to know where my hand was…..I had to wrap my other arm around his leg to disentangle the dogs. At this point I was laughing in that slightly hysterical, self-conscious way. The daughter looked on mortified, apologising to the chap on behalf of both the dog and my account.

This was all before the class had even started- so that really set the tone- I doubt they’ll want us back next week! By the way the trainer did say that Springers do in particular have the attention span of a gnat…….

This dog, is dog, a dog, good dog, way dog, to dog, keep dog, an dog, idiot dog, busy dog, for dog, 20 dog, seconds dog!

Now read without the word dog.

Monday 28th January

Monday 28th January

I had to take a son into town this morning and then pick a daughter up from town, so managed to squeeze in an hours dog walk along St Aubins bay.

The obligatory food shop at Waitrose and a visit to the pet shop for dog food supplies plus an hour Pilates concluded my morning- no mishaps fortunately.

I didn’t get to the hospital to see the staff and thank them- that’s a job for tomorrow morning now.

Played four matches of badminton tonight, but all of them went to three games- so that’s twelve games altogether- lucky they were ‘mixed’ games so I just stood at the front and tried to look busy, whilst my male partner ran ragged around me!!!

Badminton player and tennis player accident!
A badminton player and a tennis player get into a car accident, and it's a bad one. Both cars are heavily damaged, but amazingly neither of them are hurt. After they crawl out of their cars, the badminton player spots the other's tennis gear and says, "So you're a tennis player, that's interesting. I'm a badminton player... Gosh! Just look at our cars, there's nothing left, but fortunately we are unhurt. This must be a sign from God that we should meet and be friends and live together in peace for the rest of our days."

The tennis player replied: "I agree with you completely; this must be a sign from God!"

The badminton player continued, "And look at this - here's another miracle. My car is completely demolished but this bottle of whisky didn't break. Surely God wants us to drink this and celebrate our good fortune."

Then he hands the bottle to the tennis player. The tennis layer nods his head in agreement, opens it and takes a few big gulps from the bottle, then hands it back to the badminton player.

The badminton player takes the bottle, immediately puts the cap back on, and hands it back to the tennis player. The tennis player asks, "Aren't you having any?"

The badminton player replies, "No. I think I will just wait for the police to turn up and sort this out..."

Sunday 27th January

Sunday 27th January

We had a sudden thunderstorm tonight and have since lost internet connection, so this blog may not get posted until tomorrow.

Dog walking and an aerobics class filled up my morning, so lovely to see the sunshine!

Hubby and I went off to St Brelades Bay for a CPA official lunch.

Although it was a lovely meal and I sat next to a ‘Norfolk gal’-lots to talk about there- it was a shame to spend the afternoon indoors.

Further to the ‘Islands friends together’ I am attaching the latest flyer……I have already had a great response from my 'readers'- thank you. If it helps I will be at St Martin's School at 11.30am next Sunday if people wish to drop anything off.

PLEDGE FOR USED OR UNWANTED GIFTS FOR CHARITY

Dear Kind-hearted Colleagues and Friends

I am writing to ask you kindly whether you would kindly be able to consider giving any unwanted or used gifts to our charity "Island Friends Together” a Jersey charity supporting Orphanages and Poor Schools in Sri Lanka and South India.

Our next shipment is leaving Jersey in 3 - 4 weeks’ time and we will be sending various items such as toys, stationery, toiletries, educational items and games, DVDs, video cassettes, chocolates and biscuits etc. to two different very poor schools and an orphanage in Sri Lanka.

I would be extremely grateful for your help and support, however small it may be.

Yours sincerely

Dr.Hima
