Tuesday 15th January
I’m not sure what frame of mind I’ve actually been in today,
a bit of a conflict between the ‘glow’ of winning the badminton tournament last
night, lack of sleep, and the anxiety of the CT scan!
Started the day with a dog ‘march’ around the fields, unusually
with my ipod plugged in, partly to keep my ears warm, but primarily to stop me
thinking!! The dog gave me a few strange looks when I occasionally burst into
song!
Quick change and back out to my Zumba class, first one of
the term and a bit of a shock to the system, but a great distraction. One
slight drawback, I needed to drink copious amounts of liquid pre scan, not good
when you’re busy doing high energy salsa and merengue!
Another lightening shower/change and drink before going to
hospital. Amazingly no queue and no wait, however the poor nurse thought she’d
just cannulate me quickly to help out as my veins looked good. Tried the right
arm, the vein ‘disappeared’ (apparently this can happen with ‘overuse’ and
frankly I’m not surprised the amount of abuse my veins have already had). So
she tried the left arm, and the needle bent- I know this as she showed it to me
as she pulled it out!
She admitted defeat, and was hugely apologetic; we had a
laugh about it… (It’s good to laugh, my daughter tweeted a ‘fact’ that “Laughter
increases the activity of antibodies in the body by 20%, helping destroy
viruses and tumor cells.”) Anyway eventually had the cannula in my hand and had
the scan, a bit uncomfortable but otherwise fine.
Raced off to work and became totally absorbed in small
children and art activities- once again a great distraction, didn’t get home
until 4.30pm. So another change of clothes and speedily put together a pasta
bake that I’d half made at 8am this morning- left the house at 5.40pm to go to
Macmillan at the lido.
I had a notice come through the post about an informal
meeting tonight about the possibility of setting up a support group for ladies
with ‘gynaecological cancers’. I think it’s a very good idea, for many reasons.
(Big thanks to hubby who came and gave valuable input on his role as
partner/carer).
Didn’t get home too late, so how come it is now nearly
11.30pm and I wanted an early night!
Lastly many thanks for the numerous texts and well wishes I received
today regarding the scan- I will know the results late Thursday afternoon…..
Oh, and one last thing a BIG
CONGRATULATIONS to Mrs Jdlh, who had a lovely photo in last night’s JEP-
back wearing the nurses uniform and on the ward already!!
