Saturday 5th January
I have not been feeling 100% over the last couple of days,
and thought I’d probably got the start of a cold coming. Took to my bed early
last night, but couldn’t stop shivering and slept badly. We were supposed to
have been walking from Grouville to St Helier for the re-enactment of the
Battle of Jersey, but felt terrible so that was out of the question. At 7.30am Son no 2 took my temperature which was up to
38.5 and so immediately hubby rang the oncology number and explained the
situation. She advised us to pack a bag and sent us off to A& E pronto.
I was pathetically emotional, felt so rubbish and really
didn’t want to go into hospital, but hubby mopped the tears, sorted some stuff
out and took me down. We were seen by the doctor who was expecting us and the
nurse took blood (from both arms as couldn’t get enough from one!)Then there
was talk of me spending the night on Sorel ward in the ‘Neutropenic isolation’
ward, with an antibiotic drip. However the results came back and despite me
being so Neutropenic on Monday I wasn’t today- so that meant a change of tact-
a throat swab was taken for a possible virus infection, oral antibiotics and
paracetamol administered instead. I had a saline drip for an hour just to
rehydrate me and was sent home.
Spent most of the day in bed, but got up late afternoon to
check that the house and dog were in order, (joking). Feel a little weak and
wobbly, but much better than I did this time yesterday thank goodness.

Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!"
